Feeling stressed? How a game of bowling can help!
Stress is something most of us feel at one time or another. It doesn't matter if you're a student, mum, construction worker or teacher, it's perfectly normal to feel stressed and overwhelmed. According to WayAhead, around 75 per cent of Australians admit stress impacts their physical health, while slightly less (64 per cent) note its affect on their mental health.
Although stress is normal, you should deal with it in a positive manner. This means you need an outlet where you can relax, have fun and just enjoy getting away from the stresses of everyday life. Have you thought about bowling as your outlet? If not, take a read below to know why bowling is a great stress relief exercise.
Scientifically proven benefits
There is no doubt that bowling is different to going for a run. However, from a scientific perspective, the impact on your body is much the same. Based on research from both the Harvard Medical School and Mayo Clinic, exercise will lower stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol while boosting mood elevators such as endorphins.
After a game of bowling, you may experience what is called 'runner's high' when your body feels great and your mind is completely stress-free - that is the power of chemicals on the brain!
Socialising with new people
At AMF Bowling, we have many bowling leagues where you can meet new people who share the same interests as you. We humans are social creatures and friendly banter and support can help to relieve daily stress.
After a long day at work or uni, get down to the lanes, knock a few pins down, have a few laughs with friends (and strangers) and start to feel that stress lift from your mind!
The art of concentration
When we are under pressure or stressed, it's easy to forget the big picture and get worked up about the finer details. This is normal and hard to break, but also where the distraction of bowling might help.
Once you're out of the stressful environment, you don't have to worry about that pile of paperwork - just focus on knocking down the pins. The fun part of bowling is that it becomes a game of numbers and maths, allowing your brain to switch its focus from stress to working out what you need to win!
